Apple
Key Health and Fitness Features:
Sleep Apnea Detection: This new FDA-cleared feature uses the watch's sensors to monitor breathing irregularities during sleep, making it easier to detect potential issues without undergoing a sleep study. It’s also available on Series 9 and Ultra 2 via software updates.
Training Load Metrics: This new addition tracks the cumulative impact of workouts over time, helping users better plan recovery and training.
Improved Fitness Tracking: Core functionalities like step tracking, heart rate monitoring, ECG, and skin temperature sensing remain reliable. The ability to adjust daily goals offers more flexibility.
Water Activity Enhancements: A water temperature sensor and an updated Depth app improve usability for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts.
• Seamless integration: It’s deeply integrated into my daily routine, from notifications to health tracking, and I never get bored of it. It’s versatile and makes managing my day and staying on top of my activity levels effortless.
• Improved sleep tracking: While I initially relied on third-party apps like AutoSleep, the native sleep tracking on the Apple Watch has significantly improved over the years. It has become more accurate and now provides useful insights into my sleep patterns without needing external apps.
• Durability: Despite wearing it daily, it has held up extremely well. Mine has only minor scratches, which is impressive for such a frequently used device.
• Customizable bands: Great variety of bands available, allowing for easy customization to fit your style & needs. This adds versatility, making the watch adaptable for different occasions, from workouts to formal settings.
• Battery life: One downside is that I have to charge it every day, which can be inconvenient at times. For a device I use constantly, I wish the battery life was longer.
• Silicone strap issues: The original silicone strap caused skin irritation and wasn’t comfortable to wear long-term. I switch to the sports loop, which is much better for daily wear, offering a lightweight and breathable option.
• High price point: The Apple Watch is one of the most expensive options on the market for a smartwatch. For those on a budget, this may deter potential buyers, especially considering there are alternative brands that offer similar features at lower prices.
• Apple ecosystem requirement: You need an iPhone/iPad to access its full functionality. This limits its appeal for users who may not be invested in Apple products.
2. Speed: With the new Chip there is a significant speed boost for smoother navigation and quicker app interactions like with the series' before. Had the series 8 for about a year before.
3. Reliable Health Tracking: Accurate heart rate monitoring and comprehensive fitness data comparable to specialized equipment. This is the most important aspect for me.
4. Aesthetics: surely design is very individual but I like the slim design, exchangeable bands etc. (disclaimer: the apple universe swallowed my years ago with my first macbook ;)
2. The dark side of aesthetics: you have to be really careful to not touch a wall, door handle etc. accidentally as the glass / casing is still quite fragile. Classic apple stuff: you buy the main device and then need protectors, special cable etc. But I guess apple people know that ;)
- Since osWatch 11 the Apple Watch has a lot of features for doing individual sport sessions
- Fair price for the standard model like Apple Watch 9
- I had 2 Apple Watches and the Apple Watch 5 is still getting updates and running
- Apple Watch will check your health as long as you wear the watch (Atrial fibrillation, extrem low or high heart rate, etc.)
- Will detect if you fall down or have a car accident
- The battery life is a joke compared to Garmin and Co.
- Have a longtime tracking of my health data (HR, HRV, steps, ...)
- Has complete integration with Apple Health (although from my perspective Apple could iterate faster with Apple Health)
- Smoothly integrated in whole Apple ecosystem
- Lots of different 3rd party App across various health topics available
- Compared to other wearables quite accurate
- Different wrist bands available to change style
- Can be distracting and annoying due to the display and with several other use cases apart from health topics
