Anyone here with experience supplementing glycine?

I’ve been hearing a lot about it lately. Would be great to hear from others:

How much do you take for optimal benefits?

When do you usually take it?

And what kind of effects have you actually noticed?

I don't use a glycine supplement. Isn't the glycin in protein rich food enough? (e.g. in boiled eggs)? @karol What do you think?

I take Magnesium Bisglycinate AND started to take extra Glycine before bed occasionally and that really rocks my sleep!

There’s a great summary on Glycine by Siim Land on YouTube that likely answers most of your questions:

@brgmn
Siim Land recommends a daily intake of 10g of Glycine. To hit that amount through food alone:
• You’d need to eat around 50 large eggs per day (1 large egg ≈ 0.2g Glycine). Not very realistic.
• Bone broth is a better source, offering 2-4g per serving, but you’d still need 200–330g of high-quality broth daily to reach 10g.

What’s your current Glycine routine? Any brands or forms you’d recommend?

Thanks @karol, super interesting!

I actually started taking up to 5 grams of glycine in the evening a few weeks ago.

I don’t track my sleep, but I definitely have the feeling that my REM sleep phase has gotten longer.

@heiko-bartlog have you noticed similar effects or have you actually measured your sleep with and without glycine?

Heiko Bartlog · 1 week ago

hm ... I feel(!) like my sleep is deeper with glycine but I do not have a with/without tracking to compare.

@karol ah. I forgot for a moment that my collagen supplement from Edubily is full of glycin, too: https://edubily.de/products/kollagen-hydrolysat But I don't take a dedicated Glycine supplement (and don't think it's needed).

@brgmn off-topic. Can you recommend this collagen? I just once bought the collagen from dm. The taste was so bad that I stopped taking it after a week.

@fabian-praschl It‘s in my TOP10 of worst tasting supplements -but you can easily mix it into a recovery shake and don‘t notice it. I always buy two bags (normal and orange) and mix them because orange is far too sweet. Besides that: nice product and cheap -the only exception for me as a longtime vegetarian (don‘t believe in vegan alternatives).
